“The Long and Winding Road”

In this worship service, I explore themes related to belonging, identity, and welcome as they have impacted my life and faith journey. This is the first service of a four-part arc at First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor.

“The Road Goes Ever On and On”

When we meet one another in congregational life, we are forever changed by the interaction.  This hasn’t always been understood as a good thing in our tradition’s history, and it’s time for us to reframe the narrative.

“Destination Unknown”

We hear a lot about the changing patterns of participation in religious institutions. There is sufficient evidence that people are less likely to be involved in a congregation. However, there is nothing to say that people have become less spiritual or less interested in having community. Although the future of congregational life will certainly be different, we have every reason to be joyful and optimistic based on the stories of our past and the beauty of the present.

“Welcome to Churchville, Population: You”

During this interactive multigenerational service, we explored the ways that each of us contributes to making the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor the special place that it is.  Folks who joined from home were invited to participate remotely with the purpose of everyone being included, regardless of their location.

Easter 2023

This is one of my favorite sermons, partly because it uses an exegetical approach to an ancient text, in this case, the Christian scriptures. I love working with a text to find hidden meaning and fresh insights for modern live. I enjoy doing a deep dive all kinds of sacred texts, as well as modern poetry and prose. The full video also shows an example of a liturgy that I had developed with lay leaders and of which I feel very proud.

Humanists of BUC Meeting

Ok, so this one isn’t a sermon. It’s a good example of my teaching style and the relationship-building that I feel is central to congregational life. One of the ways that I hope to strengthen relationships is honesty, vulnerability, and availability. It’s ok to ask me tough questions, and I’m willing to share who I am and what I believe. I do this in the hopes of fostering a safe environment for others to follow suit.
